DOROTHY GROSS Chicago, Illinois National President, Iota Pelatis Auxiliary MR. DELMAR SMITHA San Antonio, Texas National President, Iota Lambds Auxiliary Our National President Says: We are one year into the new decade and are already "Facing the Challenges of the '80's". "Facing" is not so important; that stance is inevitable. The important issue is how we MEET and cope with those challenges. Whether you voted for the presidential loser or winner, certainly you will agree that we are on the threshold of a different era. The overriding feeling of many fears is that Mr. Reagan, the strident reactionary of yore, has more recently been associated with a conservatism that is seemingly tied to racism. It is also feared that this conservatism may surface to orchestrate an agenda totally insensitive to the historically factual legacy of slavery. As Iotans-- active leaders in our respective communities-- we must remain ever alert and use our unbiased findings as opportunities to refashion strategies and develop more persuasive methods for communicating solutions for self-determination within our national, state, and local communities. We must monitor all legislation that will be of special importance to us as Black people. Right now, "economic parity" take priority! Let's give Mr. Reagan a chance before we condemn him, but in the meantime, let's do our part to help him properly execute his duties as President of ALL THE PEOPLE! 236
