ARTHUR H. BARNES
PRESIDENT, 100 BLACK MEN
DEPUTY GRAND MARSHAL

Mr. Barnes was born and raised in Harlem. He attended the Bronx High School of Science and Brooklyn College. While at Brooklyn College, he started his first job as a file clerk at the Consolidated Insurance Companies. Upon his leaving Consolidated, Mr. Barnes' position was Vice President of the Manpower Division of the Consolidated Insurance Companies, and, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Consolidated Claims Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Consolidated Insurance Companies. Mr. Barnes spent 21 years with this company.

Since 1978 Mr. Barnes has served as the President of the 100 Black Men, one of the most prestigious organizations in the country.

Arthur Barnes became President of the New York Urban Coalition in 1975. The New York Urban Coalition, an alliance of business, community and labor leaders, bridges New York City's diverse communities. Organized in 1967, in the wake of the urban riots, the Coalition was conceived as a "catalytic force in bringing the resources of the private sector to bear on the problems of disadvantaged minorities in New York City.
