BLACK MOVIES

Blacks fared well for a while during the seventies on the silver screen and then the bubble burst. But before it all ran out Nipsey Russell, Diana Ross & Lena Horne starred in the Wiz. Morgan Freeman and Cicely Tyson lit up the T.V. tube with a great characterization of The Marva Collins Story which told of the trials and tribulations the real Marva Collins experienced in opening up her school for indigent black children in a Chicago ghetto.

Harry Belafonte, Sidney Poitier and Clarence Muse made several films, especially noteworthy was "Buck and The Preacher". Gordon Parks went back to presenting brilliant photographic shows and a youthful newcomer, Howard E. Rollins, starred in the film "Ragtime" which featured an 82 year old James Cagney.
