Jane Bolin had been very active in achieving this goal.

A constitution Committee was then appointed with the founder, Florence K. Norman, serving as chairman. After the prescribed period of preliminaries pertinent to this next major step, the constitution was adopted April 24, 1938.

The ideals of Lambda Kappa Mu are Sisterhood, Achievemant, Service and Scholarship. The purpose of the sorority is to promote scholarship aid to young women interested in continuing their education and emphasis is placed on community and volunteer services. An affiliate of the National Council of Negro Women, Church Women United and the National Council of Women. Lambda Kappa Mu provides financial support to the Negro College Fund, National Urban League and the National Committee on Children and Youth.

The National Youth Program of Lambda Kappa Mu was organized in 1963. Known as the Kopells, the Youth Group represents a directed focus on building leadership for tomorrow, through a program of good citizenship, personal and vocational guidance as well as cultural enlightenment.
