JESSE OWENS
INTERNATIONAL AMATEUR ATHLETE AWARD

The Sales Executives Club Luncheon on January 22, 1982 at the Empire Room of the Waldorf Astoria was the vehicle used to present the first Jesse Owens International Amateur Athlete Award which was awarded to Eric Heiden, Olympic Champion of 1980 and holder of 5 Olympic Medals for Speed Ice Skating.  In Eric Heiden's absence, his sister Beth accepted the trophy.

Sitting on the Dais were, Donna De Varona, Olympic Champion Swimmer and now an N.B.C. Sportscaster.

Joe Yancy (Coach of the New York Pioneer Track and Field Club.  Lee Archer (Vice President of Urban Affairs, General Foods Corp.) Beth Heiden (Olympic Medalist in Speed Ice Skating, sister of Eric Heiden recipient of the Inaugural Jesse Owens Award).

Dr. Leroy Walker (1976 Olympic Track and Field Coach) Martin Glickman (Jesse's teamate and Sportscaster) Philip L. Smith (President and Chief Executive Officer of General Foods and dinner chairman for the Jesse Owens Awards Dinner).

Bob Richard (Foremost inspirational speaker in the country today and Olympic Pole Vault Champion, our keynote speaker).
