"embracing dimensional friendships"

The 1982 Conclave of Carats, Inc., to be held July 9, 10, 11, 1982 will be hosted by the Cleveland Chapter in one of America's great cities, Cleveland, Ohio. Cleveland, located on America's North Coast, is truly the Great Lake City with a wide variety of visitor attractions along with world renowned cultural institutions.

Macon, Georgia was the scene of the 1981 Carat Conclave where "Old South Charm" in the "Heart of Georgia" was the setting for a "Dazzling Retreat" hosted by the Macon Chapter. Amid an exciting weekend of comaraderie, relaxation and enjoyment, The Carats, in accordance with its precepts and aims presented its' Annual Community Fund Award to Kuumba Arts of Macon, Georgia. Ms. Terry Axom Auston is the founder and director.

Another highlight of Carats' activities for 1981 was the installation of the Washington, D. C. Chapter. The D. C: Gadabouts were installed into the National Organization of Carats, Inc., making it the 10th Chapter to join an outstanding group of women. The installation was held during a gala week-end at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, April 10-12, 1981. The impressive Installation Service and Brunch were held at the Howard University Blackburn Center. Mayor Marion Berry of Washington, D. C. proclaimed April 11, 1981 as Carats Day in Washington, D. C.

Carats, Inc. is a national organization of women whose members foster friendships, the enjoyment of each other and life in general. However, many outstanding civic, educational, and cultural contributions have been forth-coming from this organization, both individually and collectively. Carats are like "gems" showing many facets of character, quality and clarity of purpose. Carats wear their gold chain bracelets and disc charms with pride as they represent the club emblem. Each member also has blue and yellow in her wardrobe for those beautiful soft club colors are always appropriate when worn with the yellow rose, the organization's flower.
