ZETA PHI BETA OBSERVES 12th ANNIVERSARY OF STORK'S NEST PROJECT

Zeta's priority concern is COMMUNITY OUTREACH SERVICES implemented in various ways that effectively meet the needs of the community. In 1970, the STORK'S NEST PROJECT was launched (in conjunction with the March of Dimes Birth Defects Foundation) in Atlanta, beginning as an incentive program to encourage high-risk expectant mothers to seek early and continuing pre-natal care to enhance healthy delivery, giving each newborn an equal (healthy) start in life.

The Stork's Nest Centers are redistribution centers that provide infant items at little or no cost to these economically disadvantaged mother-to-be who are referred by local cooperating agencies, such as welfare offices, hospitals, and health units.

The educational component of the project provides workshops, counseling sessions, etc. that entail the entire concept of parenting.

Currently, 80 centers are in operation across the country, with more than 35,000 unborns and newborns having benefited from the project.
