growth and development of young black women.

As more women became involved in these meetings, tremendous enthusiasm developed, as well as the idea of creating a black women's organization for the contemporary black woman. As it matured, the New York Coalition of 100 Black Women grew in size, stature, and influence and focused on the political, social, and economic aspects of the country's greatest and most influential city.

"As I spoke around the country on behalf of the Coalition, it became apparent that there was a need for a national coalition," said Mrs. McCabe, an active and well-known New Yorker who is director of government and community affairs at WNET/Thirteen, the New York public broadcasting television station.

The three vice presidents of the National Coalition are Patricia Pearsall, Texas; Carole Ann Taylor, Florida; and Delia Young, Missouri. Other officers are Dr. Margaret Hayes, New Jersey, secretary; Barbara DeBaptise of Connecticut, treasurer; Jatrice Gator, Indiana, financial secretary. Members of the Board of Directors are Dr. Velma Blackwell, Alabama; Yvonne Brathwaite Burke, California; Venita Vinson, Colorado; Adrian McBeth, Florida; Jan Douglass, Georgia; Faye Williams, Indiana; Lydia Mallett, Michigan;

The power that such a bloc represents stands as the most effective resource available for tackling the complex issues facing the black community. Within this framework the National Coalition of 100 Black Women embarked on the challenges of the 1980s as a national movement of black women committed to change through a new sophisticated approach, designed for action.
