The National Association of Guardsmen, Inc., is a National Social and Cultural Organization composed of fifteen chapters with a combined membership of five hundred men whose allocations and professions extend across the spectrum of life in Black America.

Organized in Brooklyn, New York, during the year 1933 by 13 young Black men eager to foster a high sense of honor and fellowship among them and the organization has continued and grown in that spirit. Its purposes are to promote the social intellectual and cultural association among its membership and epitomize the splendor and dignity of Black heritage in its public manifestations. 

Each Chapter exercises autonomy in the selection of its membership, with the limitation that such membership not exceed thirty in number. Membership basically is restricted to those men possessed of good moral character, active and philanthropic and other organizations dedicated to the uplift of Black people, and, temperate in his habits and ability for social intercourse.

The National Organizations holds three meetings annually, which is a part of a weekend of festive activities hosted by one of the Chapters on a rotating basis. During the year 1981 meeting weekends were held at Savannah, Georgia; Montreal Canada with the Connecticut Chapter as host and at Richmond, Virginia.

Weekend meetings during 1982 will be hosted by The North Carolina Chapter at Greensboro, on March 26, 27 and 28; by the Philadelphia Chapter at Cherry Hill, New Jersey, on July 23, 24 and 25; and by the Brooklyn Chapter at Santo Domingo on September 23, 24, 25 and 26.

The current National Officers are Wm. Decker Clarke, Esq., National President and Frank G. Elliott, M.D., National Secretary-Treasurer, both of the Connecticut Chapter. The Officers assuming duties during 1982 are James A. Patricks, National President and C. Miles Smith, D.D.S., as Secretary-Treasurer both of the Atlanta Chapter.
