detained by the police for selling his fortunes on the street and the principal of our school had to go and get him out of jail so that he could march with us.

The next person in business on 125th Street that I remember was frat brother the late Walter Miller who in 1948 announced one night in fraternity meetings that he had an idea for starting a Savings & Loan Company to be housed on 125th Street.  Walter and his group did just that and the Savings and Loans was called Carver Federal Saving and Loan Company.  Walter died before Carver really got going and the late Joe Davis was asked to come in and carry on for the association which he did until his death in 1968.  Joe Davis was succedd [sic] by Reverend Moran Weston and he was succeeded by the present management of Richard Greene.

The next Negro to own a business on 125th Street was the fabulous Charlies Bunks whose wife Helen Lesinforf bought out Brands Liquor Store and gave it to Charlie to operate.  Brands Liquor was located on 125th between 7th and 8th Avenues.  After Charlie history was not make [sic] on the street until Lloyd Von Blaine talked to the owners of Frank's Restaurant in allowing him to "buy" in their business.
