19 Black athletes have won the coveted Gordon's Gin Good Guy Award for charitable and humanitarian activities, apart from their exloits [[exploits]] on the field of their professional endeavors, during the past four years.

The award, created by Gordon's Dry Gin Company Limited, recognizes athletes for services to their fellow man (and woman) and makes a cash donation to a charity designated by each honoree. Since establishment of the award, four years ago, Gordon's has honored 40 winners, 19 of whom are Blacks.

More than $100,000 has been given to various charities outright by Gordon's during this period. Additionally, Gordon's funded a tour by Willie Stargell, in aid of Sickle Cell Anemia, which brought in over $25,000 in contributions. Gordon's also donated $10,000 in cash to the endeavor and spent more than $25,000 in underwriting the tour.

Winners who have also been presented with handsome plaques include men like; Stargell, Hank Aaron, Joe Frazier, Elston Howard, Dave Winfield, Jim Chones, Jerry Eckman, Bill Robinson and others.

Donations have been to organizations such as: NAACP, Tuskegee Institute High School, Hank Aaron Fund, Kwanza Foundation, Louis Armstrong Music Scholarship Fund, Dave Winfield Foundation, Denver Area Black Teenagers, Murphy's Marchers (Black baton twirling group), and Harlem Week Fund.

WORLD'S ONLY BLACK PROFESSIONAL JAI-ALAI PLAYER WINS GORDON'S GIN GOOD GUY AWARD

MIAMI, FLORIDA — 20-year old Fred Griffin, the world's only Black professional Jai-Alai player, was recently presented with the Gordon's Gin Good Guy Award in recognition of his volunteer work among underprivileged  children in his home community of Miami, Florida.

In addition to receiving a plaque, from tony Perez, Florida State Manager for Gordon's Gin, a cash contribution, in Griffin's name, was made by Gordon's Dry Gin Company Limited to the Miami Chapter of the N.A.A.C.P.

Griffin joins such athletic luminaries as Willie Stargell, Hank Aaron, Dave Winfield, Lyle Alzado, Franco Harris and a number of others as recipients of the Gordon's Gin Good Guy Award for their charitable and community service endeavors.

Young Griffin began playing jai-alai as an amateur at the age of 12 and turned pro at age 18. He is one of the stars playing nightly at the World Jai-Alai Fronton in Miami, Florida.

GORDON'S GIN GOOD GUY AWARD TO JERRY ECKWOOD OF TAMPA BAY BUCS
Jerry Eckwood, star tailback of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, is the latest recipient of the Gordon's Gin Good guy Award. A plaque was presented to Eckwood at Tampa Stadium by Tony Perez, Florida State Manager for Renfield Importers, Ltd.

Eckwood earned the accolade for his work in establishing the "Shoes From Santa Fund," which provides footwear for underprivileged youngsters in ghetto areas. Jerry's efforts over the past few years have enlisted the support of many of his teammates and athletes in other teams in the NFL.

In addition to the plaque, Gordon's Gin gave Eckwood a cash donation to be used by the fund. Thus the fleet-footed back joins awardees like Hank Aaron, Willie Stargell, Dave Winfield and others as recipients of the Gordon's Gin Good Guys Award.
