Never in recent history has the Harlem Branch YMCA depended more than it does now on the continued moral and financial support of the Black Achievers and the corporations they represent.

The renaissance of the Harlem Y, which was begun last year, has slowed primarily as the results of the country's economic situation. While we have been forced to modify or delay some of our more ambitious plans, we are resolute in our determination to modernize our facilities and provide those services that a YMCA, such as ours, should be providing. The Y is much more than a pool and a gym. The Harlem Branch YMCA has tutoring for in-school youth, comprehensive services for single parents, family counseling, cultural enrichment activities, career-guidance assistance, drug prevention services and other services all designed to enhance the mind, body and spirit of youth and adults.

We are proud of our progress. As a result of our efforts, more youngsters are staying in school and seeking postsecondary education, unemployed young single parents are learning what it means to be a good parent and become self-supporting and families are coming closer together, while young and old are enjoying the benefits of being physically fit.

Only through your sustained individual and corporate efforts will the Harlem Branch YMCA be able to continue its work. Help us help the community.
