COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIP
Now let me touch upon another type of partnership, the one which exists between our company and the communities where we do business.

This partnership encompasses a number of areas which are of interest to the minority community. First, we have a strong corporate commitment to hire and promote minorities throughout all levels of our companies. Minorities currently comprise 18 percent of our total work force and actively participate in making key decisions as members of our management team, and as members of the Board of Directors of our brewing subsidiary, Anheuser-Busch, Inc., and our parent corporation, Anheuser-Busch Companies, Inc.

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT PARTNERSHIP
Second, we are committed to the economic development of those communities which support our products. Anheuser-Busch will continue to expand the number of minority suppliers and contractors with whom we do business; we will continue to support the nation's minority-owned banks, through our deposits, payroll accounts, and $5 million line of credit; and we will continue to be sensitive to business opportunities within our company which will benefit minority business people... particularly in the area of advertising our products through minority-owned media.

We will also continue to explore opportunities to expand the number of minority-owned distributorships at Anheuser-Busch. We currently have two minority-owned operations here in California. Two of our branch operations have minority management and, more importantly, we are close to finalizing negotiations establishing another minority wholesaler in the Midwest.

Third, Anheuser-Busch will continue its practice of supporting community-based non-profit organizations which, on a daily basis, work to improve the quality of life for everyone, especially the underprivileged. These groups have earned our support, and will continue to receive that support, whether in the area of education, social welfare, cultural, or community and economic development. We are particularly proud of such programs as the Anheuser-Busch urban league community college scholarship program for adults who seek a "second chance" to embark upon a new career through continued education. This program, established in St. Louis in 1966, was recently expanded to the metropolitan communities of Newark and Chicago and additional markets are under consideration. To date, the program has assisted nearly 500 adults.

CREATING A BRIGHTER FUTURE
We share with you the belief that is the responsibility of business to return something to the community which supports our products. Like CAL-PAC, we recognize that support of education is perhaps the most important way to show that we are concerned about the total community.

At Anheuser-Busch we are particularly proud of the Budweiser-sponsored Lou Rawls Parade of Stars which will raise over $6 million this year to support 50,000 young people in 42 United Negro College Fund Institutions. This program is familiar to you since it raised over $230,000 through the generosity of Los Angeles residents last January.

Anheuser-Busch is proud of our partnership with CAL-PAC and with the communities we serve. We want to be a responsible...and responsive company.

Working closely with CAL-PAC and other concerned groups, Anheuser-Busch is committed to doing its share in helping to create a bright future for our society.
