THE JESSE OWENS INTERNATIONAL AMATEUR ATHLETE TROPHY AWARD
This trophy will be awarded annually to the amateur athlete whose achievements best exemplify the Olympian spirit of Jesse Owens. It was designed by artist Calvin Massey whose paintings and sculpture have achieved national recognition among private and museum collectors. Mr. Massey has worked extensively in medallic design for the Franklin Mint and is the creator of the Mac Arthur Memorial Medal.

To embody the concept of the Jesse Owens International Amateur Athlete Award, Mr. Massey has created this 27-inch gold bronze statue. An eight-inch figure of Jesse Owens in superb running form is mounted atop a world globe twelve inches in diameter. Encircling the globe is a band of oxidized silver with bas relief figures of young athletes engaged in many sports.

NEW YORK, March 16 - Distance runner Mary Decker Tabb, who last year set seven world records in track and field, has been chosen as the recipient of the 1983 Jesse Owens Award International Amateur Athlete Award.
