THE EXECUTIVE BOARD

Barristers' Wives was organized in St. Louis, Missouri, August 29, 1951, at the home of Atty. and Mrs. Clarence English. Charter Officers were: Mrs. Robert L. Witherspoon, President; Mrs. C. Francis Stradford, Vice-President; Mrs. LeRoy McKinney, Secretary; Mrs. Timothy Veal, Treasurer; Mrs. LeMarquis DeJarmon, Historian; Mrs. William Henry Huff, Chairman of Constitution & By-laws Committee; and Mrs. James F. Little, Chairman of Membership Committee. The officers were duly installed on August 30, 1951, by Atty. Theodore F. Crawley, Twenty-eight charter members comprised the body.

The first Annual Convention was held in Detroit, Michigan, August 1952, and the organization was incorporated in February 1953, District of Columbia. The incorporators were: Mesdames: Pearl Coleman, Bathrus Williams, Macleta Pair, Mercedes Douglass and Kathryn Lane

PURPOSES
. . To promote a more cohesive relationship among spouses of lawyers on national, state, and local levels.. 

. . To enhance the prestige of the legal profession through civic, cultural, educational, political, social, economic, and recreational efforts . . 

. . To engage in any such activities of community service that will provide a viable and constructive program for Barristers' Wives across the nation. .

MEMBERSHIP

The organization is composed of spouses of attorneys and judges from throughout the United States and the Virgin Islands. Some of the members are also practicing attorneys.

THE EXECUTIVE BOARD

The Executive Board consists of the elected national officers, the appointed national officers, and past national presidents. (The appointed officers may include: the parliamentarian, historian, program-planning chairman, director of public relations, chaplain, scholarship director, convention chairman, newsletter editor, and presidential assistant.)

CHAPTER STRUCTURE

Chapters comprise a minimum of five persons. National Barristers' Wives Chapters are located presently in the following regional areas:

North - New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania
South - North Carolina, Georgia, Florida
East - Washington, D.C.
West - Louisiana and Texas
Central - Illinois, Iowa, Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Missouri
Far West - California and Washington

ANNUAL CONVENTION

The Annual Convention of National Barristers' Wives is held at the same site and time as the National Bar  Association's Annual Convention.
