armed forces during World War II, stationed in the United States, Germany and Belgium. After the war he attended Howared University and later Renouard Training School of Embalming from which he received his diploma in 1958. Mr. Duncan served his apprenticeship with Louise B. Hart, Inc. and received his New York State License as a mortician. He reopened the family business, Duncan Brothers, at the original site, 2303 Seventh Avenue.

Mr. Duncan served as a distributor for the Seagram Company starting in the late 1940's.

A leading citizen of Harlem, John Westerly Duncan was a member of the masons and supported various other organizations.

John Duncan leaves behind three children, John IV, Bradford and Barbara; his mother, Josephine Owens; a sister, Delores Wharton; and one grandson, Bradford, Jr.
