In 1971, upon the convening of the 92nd Congress, Mrs. Chisholm won a spot on the House Education and Labor Committee which has jurisdiction over her main fields of concentration and interest. She served on that committee for six years before moving to the Rules Committee where she is now a ranking member.

In 1972, Congresswoman Shirley Chrisholm made history again by seriously campaigning for the Democratic Party nomination for President: the first Black woman to seek the nation's highest office. Although she was not successful, her name, her ideals, and her commitment became imbedded in America's consciousness.

She is the author of two books: UNBOUGHT AND UNBOSSED, her autobiography; and THE GOOD FIGHT, the story of her 1972 bid for the Presidency. Her husband, Arthur Hardwick who she married in 1977, is a bnusinessman residing in Buffalo, New York.
