[[caption]] Somerset Importers, Ltd. has appointed Alfred T. Miller state manager for Michigan, it was announced today by Richard C. Mutter, vice president, sales, Control States division.

Prior to his current appointment, Mr. Miller was assistant state manager for Ohio. He joined Somerset in 1976 after six years with Seagram Distillers as a salesman.

Mr. Miller attended Tennessee State University in Nashville. He recently moved with his family from Shaker Heights, Ohio to Southfield, Mich. [[/caption]]

[[caption]] John E. Heilmann, president and chief executive officer of Somerset Importers, Ltd. announced two promotions this week, appointing Richard C. Mutter to the post of senior vice president, director of national sales, and J. Sherman Barry to vice president, sales, Control States Division.

Noting Mr. Mutter's broad experience and executive ability, Mr. Heilmann said the promotion would "enhance the strength of our sales staff in its quest for continued growth". He said that "Mr. Barry has contributed in each of his progressively elevated positions in Somerset since joining the company in 1982". 

Mr. Mutter has been Somerset's vice president, sales, Control States Division. Before joining the company, he had 15 years of broad experience, serving in various executive positions with Seagram Distillers and Calvert Distillers. Mr. Mutter is a graduate of Fordham University and holds an MBA from Columbia University Graduate School of Business. He lives with his wife and family in Lloyd Harbor, N.Y.

Mr. Barry joined the company as assistant sales manager for Florida following his graduation from Ohio University. He also served as state manager for Missouri and assistant Central Division manager. He lives with his wife and family in Edison, N.J. [[/caption]]

[[caption]] Neil L. Bianchini, senior vice president and general manager, announced today that James G. Carter has been appointed vice president, director of marketing for Somerset Wine Co.

"Mr. Carter has extensive experience in both the sales and marketing side of the industry," said Mr. Banchini. "We expect him to provide effective and professional depth to our organization," Mr. Carter's involvement with the liquor industry dates back to 1969 when he joined United Vintners, Inc. He rose to general sales manager and director of operations for New York and New Jersey before leaving to join Austin Nichols & Co. as national sales manager in 1975, a post he held until 1980 when he moved to K&M Imports Co. as vice president, director of marketing. Earlier this year he moved to 21 Brands as Eastern Division manager, a post he held until joining Somerset Wine Company.

Mr. Carter hold a B.S. degree from Villanova University, Villanova, Pa. H served five years with the U.S. Marine Corps. A resident of Washington Township, N.J., where he lives with this wife and three children, Mr. Carter is active in local government and politics. He has served as president of the Town Council, is a member of the Youth Guidance Council and the Republican Club. [[/caption]]
