- University Players -
"To develop among the students of the three schools, Atlanta University, Morehouse College and Spelman College, an interest for dramatic literature. To sponsor a play writing contest each year in which members of the three schools may enter. To present plays of historical and dramatic value."

The organization was founded in November, 1931 under the supervision of Miss Anne Cooke of the Department of Fine Arts, Spelman College. Through the past seven years the organization has distinguished itself as one of the most popular and influential activities of the affiliation. In 1935, Mr. John McLinn Ross came to the Spelman Department of Fine Arts from Yale University and the combination of these two talented dramatists gave the University Players unexcelled leadership and its work took on an added significance. Much credit is due the charming Miss Cooke and the amiable Mr. Ross for it is through their efforts that the campus populace can often be heard saying, "the play is the thing."
