McCullers, a native of Garner, North Carolina, was valedictorian of his high school class before entering Shaw University. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Education at Shaw, where he held membership in the Student National Education Association, NAACP, The Business Club, and Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity.

Following his graduation from Shaw University, McCullers joined the Peace Corps and was assigned to the Republic of Panama as a cooperative organizer and consultant to the Panamanian Department of Commerce. In preparation for his Peace Corps assignment he attended the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, as well as the University of Puerto Rico.

Upon returning from Panama, McCullers joined the Capitol Coca-Cola Bottling Company in Raleigh as a Special Markets Representative. After three years of local market experience, he was named Account Executive with the Coca-Cola Bottling Company (Thomas), Inc., developing Special Markets plans for 25 Bottling Plants in eight state. In 1975, he was appointed Area Special Markets Manager with Coca-Cola USA. Operating out of New York City, he assisted Bottlers in developing core city marketing strategies in ten Northeast and Mid-Atlantic states. In 1981, he was appointed to his present position where he is responsible for the development and implementation of growth market programs for the USA soft drink marker.

McCullers is very active in both civic and professional organizations. He is a life member of the NAACP. In addition to being an active member of The Improved Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks of the World, he remains active in his collegiate fraternity, Kappa Alpha Psi. He appeared in the 1974 edition of Outstanding Young Men of America and is currently listed in the Who's Who in Black America. He also serves on the Board of Directors of the National Business League.

McCullers is President of the National Association of Market Developers, a national organization specializing in communications between the majority and minority communities. He also serves as co-chairman of the "Assault on Illiteracy Program."
