Exceptional Black Scientists

Several individuals honored in the series have taken part in educational functions. For example, Dr. Patrick spoke at a forum on "Minorities in the High Technology Workplace" during the National Urban League's 1983 convention in New Orleans.

A few weeks earlier in New Orleans, Dr. David Blackwell, professor of statistics at the University of California at Berkely, participated in the educational task force and was a judge and presentor of the ACT-SO awards in mathematics to high school students at the NAACP convention. Dr. Blackwell is honored in the 1983 series.

As part of the program, CIBA-GEIGY has presented original poster artwork to a number of educational and scientific institutions. For example, original portraits, which were done by noted artist and illustrator Ernest Crichlow, have been given to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the National Institutes of Health and the University of California at Los Angeles. Additional presentations are planned for 1984.

Since 1980, CIBA-GEIGY has distributed more than 160,000 copies of the posters to schools, libraries, community organizations, civic groups and individuals across the United States and even overseas.

Through the posters, thousands of people are learning about the important contributions in science, medicine, mathematics and education of these 15 outstanding individuals.
