What is the OIC Convocation?

Annually the OIC Convocation convenes thousands of the employment training professions, representatives from the private sector, government, the clergy, labor, and nonprofit, civic and fraternal organizations. Featured speakers are prominent national leaders from both the public and private sectors.

The OIC Convocation provides an international forum for exploring new partnerships, examining employment-related policies and issues, and exchanging information. In 1984, OIC will be celebrating the 20th Anniversary of its founding in 1964 under the leadership of Dr. Leon H. Sullivan. The Convocation will be marking that milestone with four days of special events, plenary sessions, symposia, workshops and other activities.

The schedule has been carefully arranged so that all delegates, participants and [[italicized for emphasis]] the public [[/i]] have ample opportunity to visit the Exhibit Hall and interact one-on-one with corporate and agency exhibitors.

The Convocation also functions as the setting for two unique career development and recruiting activities; The Job-O-Rama and the Youth Career Awareness Forum.

Job-O-Rama
Corporate recruiting personnel are given an opportunity to interview or review information on college seniors, graduates, and professionals seeking career-change through a computerized job-matching service. This service is available free to Convocation exhibitors.

The OIC Job-O-Rama gives companies and agencies an opportunity to managerial, professional and technical positions. Applicants have an opportunity to review hob information, make application for those openings, and interview for those positions.

Companies and agencies which are not exhibitors may elect to recruit only in the Job-O-Rama for a fee of $200.00. A Job-O-Rama space for interviewing includes an 8' x 10' booth, with drapery on three sides, a standard booth sign, and a 6' table and two chairs.

Youth Career Awareness Forum
Youth from public junior high schools are given and opportunity to get information about career opportunities in business, industry, government, and social and community work. Career professionals provide these young people with a reality-based overview of a wide variety of occupations. Most importantly they provide guidance to what kind of educational preparation is needed to pursue specific career goals.

The Career Awareness Forum is planned in conjunction with the local public school system and major national corporations and agencies. Feedback from previous Forums indicates that they have a significant effect on young people's career choices and education achievement levels.

A feature of the Forum is a special time set aside for approximately 500 students to tour the Exhibit Hall per day. this gives exhibitors an opportunity to broaden their audience, and gives the young people an opportunity to learn more about those companies and agencies which exhibit.
