A SPRING GALA FOR NORTHSIDE CENTER

Acclaimed as "THE GALA" of the spring season was the Annual Benefit Affair sponsored by the Board of Directors of Northside Center for Child Development, Inc.

This Spring Gala was held on Monday Evening, May 9, 1983, with hundreds of resplendent guests gathering in the Rainbow Room of Rockefeller Center for Cocktails At Seven, Dinner At Eight, followed by dancing, to honor Lee A. Archer, Jr., Corporation Vice President, General Foods Corporation. Mr. Archer had been selected by the Board of Directors to receive Northside Second Annual Distinguished Human Service Award.

In keeping with the overall festive theme and mood for this Gala, the Coordinators elected to "break with tradition" by having the formal presentations BEFORE the dinner hour.

Serving as Mistress of Ceremonies was beautiful Denise Richardson, Newscaster of WOR (Channel 9). The Greeting Note was made by Walter A. Eberstadt, President, Northside's Board of Directors, followed by introduction of Ruth C. Baum and Susan Patricof, Co-Chairpersons of the Benefit Committee.

Presentation of the Distinguished Human Service Award to Lee A. Archer, Jr., was made by James R. Dumpson, Senior Vice President, Board of Directors, the first honoree to receive this Award.

Dancing music was furnished by Ron Anderson's Orchestra. Another special musical treat was the famous Ramsey Lewis Trio provided by CBS Records, Inc.

The guests received favors contributed by Philip Morris, U.S.A.;Bollini Chardonnay from Premium Wine Imports Corporation; and Salt-Free Spices from Sansel, Inc./Life Spice; and perfume from Warner Cosmetics, Inc.

Corporation Coordinator for the Affair was Arthur C. Miles assisted by Debra S. Tanger as In-House Coordinator.

Elizabeth H. Graham is the Executive Director of Northside Center for Child Development, Inc. This agency serves emotionally disturbed children and their families who reside in Central and East Harlem areas.
