MANAGING EDITOR OF THE ADVOCATE, MR. ROBERT BEST IS PICTURED AS HE PRESENTS THE SCROLL FROM THE BARBADOS BOARD OF TOURISM TO MRS. HELENE SLATER

The Barbados Board of Tourism has honored an American Public Relations official for the number of time she has visited Barbados.
She is Mrs. Helen S. Slater Public Relations Counsel, who was Public Relations Director of the United Negro College Fund/Arthur Ashe Tennis Benefit, and who has visited Barbados 27 times in 12 years.
Before presenting Mrs. Slater with a Scroll on behalf of the Board of Tourism, Mr. Robert Best Managing Editor of The Advocate congratulated her on the achievement and thanked her for choosing Barbados as her favourite vacation island.
A former teacher and now also a sales representative for Buccaneer travel agency, Mrs. Slater gave the assurance that she would at all times promote Barbados and encourage Americans and all with who she came in contact to visit the island.
Mrs. Slater first came to Barbados in October 1972 to attend the regional conference being held by the Lambda Kappa Mu Sorority. She was the president of the Chapter which hosted the convention and chose Barbados because one of the founder members lived on the island.
A Past President of New York City Club of the Howard University Alumni Association, Mrs. Slater was back in Barbados in December with the excuse that she had not seen much of the island during the conference so she had to return.
She immediately joined the travel agency which arranged the tour, and since then has been responsible for many people coming to Barbados to spend their vacations.
Mrs. Slater visits Barbados every year during August, at Christmas and sometimes at Easter.
Mrs. Slater has made many friends on the island and has been trying to form a National Association of Media Women in Barbados.

Mrs. Slater is a member of many women's organizations including:
·Charter member of National Association of Media Women, Inc. (women in all branches of communications)
·Member of the Board of the New Harlem Y.W.C.A.

She is also listed in:
·Who's who of American Women
·Who's who in Black Women and
·Foremost Women in Communications.
