MESSAGE FROM THE GRAND BASILEUS
Lambda Kappa Mu Sorority is a national organization of business and professional women which comprises over 30 chapters across the country. Its membership is drawn from dedicated women who are unified in their commitment to foster black aspirations by serving as role models and by encouraging education.
The purpose of Lambda Kappa Mu may be summed up in four ideals of Sisterhood, Achievement, Service, and Scholarship. These ideals have guided our organization implementing our national theme, "Improving the Quality of Life: Meeting Community and National Needs."
This theme is currently expressed in practice through a four-point program.
1) Assault on literacy. This is the national movement to foster remedial reading and motivational programs. It provides a network of organizations which seek to eradicate illiteracy in Black America by improving the reading and comprehension skills of black youths. LKM is happy to part of this coalition.
2) Black Economic Development. This program seeks to improve the quality of life in our communities by supporting minority enterprises and patronizing minority businesses.
3 Voter Registration. This effort works for equality and recognition through the ballot box. Through the power of the right to vote we seek to unite our collective forces to overcome ignorance and bigotry in a democratic way.
4) Black on Black Love. This is a positive program which, by spreading the concepts of mutual respect and genuine regard for each other as fellow human beings, seeks to eradicate selfishness, meanness, violence, and crime, in our own communities and throughout the country.
As we look forward to celebrating our Fiftieth Anniversary in this decade, we will continue to strive toward the ideals and objectives of our beloved founders, Florence K. Norman. We will continue to work together with other black organizations locally, nationally, and internationally, to achieve mutual goals. The challenge we have accepted is not to be satisfied until we have truly made a difference in serving humanity and in making this world a better place for all.
