BLACK CONGRESS ON HEALTH, LAW and ECONOMICS
July 27-31, 1984
Rivergate Convention Center
New Orleans, Louisiana

WHO
The Black Congress on Health, Law and Economics is a growing federation of national organizations. Over 10,000 members strong, the Black Congress on Health, Law and Economics (BCHL&E) provides a forum for Black professionals to participate in shaping national policy.

WHY
Conceived in 1976 as the Black Congress on Health and Law, the group's first historic assembly was held in August 1980 in Dallas, Texas and was attended by over 7,000 delegates. The founding organizations recognized the need for Black professionals to reach a concensus on key issues impacting the Black community. In 1983, the Congress broadened its scope to include economics, and thus amended its name to the Black Congress on Health, Law and Economics.

WHEN/WHERE
Seven member organizations have agreed to hold their annual meetings at the same time in the same city every four years: The National Bar Association, The National Black Nurses Association, The National Dental Association, The National Pharmaceutical Association, The National Podiatry Association, The National Optometric Association, and The National Association of Minority CPA Firms. The second assembly of the Black Congress on Health, Law and Economics is scheduled for July 27-31, 1984 in New Orleans, Louisiana. The assembly will focus on the theme, "Access to Health Care; Right or Privilege/Moral, Legal and Economic Considerations."

GOALS & OBJECTIVES
The Black Congress on Health, Law and Economics concerns itself with those issues which hit close to home in the Black community. Acutely aware of the problems oppressing their race, Black professionals possess both the sensitivity and the expertise to offer insight and initiatives toward rectifying inadequate health care care, unequal justice, and poverty in Black America. The Black Congress on Health, Law and Economics is a concerted effort by Black professionals to devise strategies and develop mechanisms to improve the condition and ensure the future of Black America.
