made the following important recommendations: 1. That scholarship forms and letters be sent to regional directors so that they may be be better prepared to urge chapter presidents to inform their chapters. 2. That each chapter screen its applicants and send in only one applicant. 3. That to the list of wants, the school which the applicant is attending be cited. A high score would be given to those enrolled in a predominantly Black Law school.

The immediate Past President, Dr. Cleota Wilbekin distributed an operational manual to those in attendance, which should be read and studied by all chapters.

INTERNATIONAL NEWS

Our National President, Mrs. Shirley Archie was a member of the coalition which traveled with Mrs. Coretta Scott king to Africa in November to discuss the establishment of a Women in Law Programme with non-government organizations in Zimbabwe. Mrs. King is President of the Martin Luther King Centre for Justice Health programs, nutrition and rights of women were also stressed. Traveling with Mrs. King on the trip to Botswana, Zambia, Kenya and London in addition to our President, were the National Black Women's Political Caucus, Mrs. Juanita Kennedy Morgan, The International Trends and Services Links, Mrs. Gwendolyn Welters; the Director for Women and African Development Programme, African American Institute, Ms. Annette Hutchinson (also Past President of NBA). Mrs. King and her delegation visited Zanu Women's League Headquarters in Harare. They were also addressed by the Minister of Community Development and Women's Affairs, Cde Teurai Ropa Nhongo, as well as the Prime Minister's wife Cde Sally. 

THE NATIONAL EXECUTIVE BOARD MEETING IN NEW YORK, NOVEMBER 18-20

The first Fall meeting of the National Executive Board hosted by the New York Chapter of Barristers' Wives at the Hilton Hotel, the first presided over by Mrs. Shirley Archie as President was more than a success. Board members present were Mabel Dickson, Dr. Laline Harris, and Jacqueline Holt from Washington, D.C.; Rose Durant, Houston, Texas; Frankie Hall, Los Angeles; Mary Hammond, Detroit, Gwendolyn Howard, Baltimore, Maryland; Harriett Pitcher, Baton Rouge; Wilma Lassiter, Winston-Salem; Melva Samuels, Chicago, Dr. Cleota Wilbekin, Cl: Juanita Hill, Lottie Raukx Marian P. Jones, New York; and Connie Thompson, East Orange, New Jersey.  Frankie Hall's mother accompanied her, Judge Pitcher accompanied his Harriett, as well as Attorney Hammond, his Mary. A shopping spree took place early Friday afternoon. On Friday evening, visiting members and spouses were in attendance at a buffet and reception in the home of Judge and Mrs. Isaac McNatt. Gladys is Vice President of the New York Chapter. All 28 guests were seated for dinner on the four levels of the McNatt home. Food, drink, warmth and creativity left nothing to be desired.
 
Business sessions began at 9:00 a.m. Highlights of the morning session were the Presidents' plans to travel during the year. September '83 Fort Worth Trip Sponsored by American Airlines; Chicago, Fashion Show; Zimbabwe, Africa; New York City in November, Washington D.C. in December; Denver, Colorado, January; Chicago, April; Lost Angeles and California in '84.

Other topics discussed were hiring of a management consultant firm, creation of an international committee, summit of Past Presidents, project sewing machines for Zimbabwe. The President stated that she wanted each chapter to give one machine. Spring Board meeting and training sessions for Executive Board and Chapter Presidents. Sandwiched in between the afternoon session was the Annual Presidents Luncheon of the New York Chapter, for new members. Hostesses for the luncheon were Juanita Hill, Lottie Raukx, Jewel M. Rexd, and Renee Sutton. At the luncheon, Shirley Archer gave a spirited talk on Zimbabwe. The local President made timely remarks and presented the founder of the New York Chapter, Garnet Covington. There were 47 persons in attendance. The Spring Board Meeting will be held in Chicago.

Business sessions were resumed in the late afternoon and ran on until 5:30 p.m.

Jewel Reid will be the New York representative on the international committee. Donations of $1,000 by Mabel Dickson and $350 by Dr. Cleota Wilbekin were made to help defray expenses of Mrs. Betty Matura, wife of the Prime Minister of Zimbabwa, who will attend the 1984 B.W. Convention in New Orleans. 

Many ideals were presented to help increase our revenue. Mr. & Mrs. Denise Archer of Detroit (National President of N.B.A. and spouse who is also a lawyer have joined National Barristers' Wives. Mrs. E. Taylor Crump is also a new member. The President stressed that all Chapter Presidents should have an ongoing membership drive for new members. 

GREATER BATON ROUGE

The Baton Rouge Chapter has contributed $1,500 in law scholarships, also make contributions to Louisa Baptist Convention. Gained eight new members; participated in special Olympics held in Baton Rouge and is currently planning a reception to honor new members, scholarship recipients, and newly elected officers.

ST. LOUIS

Officers elected for the year 1983-84 are as follows: President, Cecil Willis; Vice President, Marion Oldham; Secretary, Sarah R. Lewis; Treasurer, Louise Gray. On December 4, the auxiliary will present a program performed by children of the members for the Tower Village Nursing Home. Gifts will be given to the residents. Activities planned for the year are a champaign breakfast and a fashion show.
