George Blanchine, 79, Dies in New York

George Balanchine, one of the greatest choreographers in the history of ballet and the co-founder and artistic director fo the New York City Ballet, died yesterday.

Mrs. Catherine Basie, wife of band leader Count Basie, died Sunday, April 10, of a heart attack at the couple's home in Freeport, Grand Bahama Island. 

She was 67 years old.

New Orleans, Feb. 13- Albert Walter Dent, retired president of Dillard University, died at his home in New Orleans Sunday after a long illness. He was 79 years old.

Edgar Bernard Felton, a retired Senior Manager with the International Business Machines Corporation, died at Hillcrest Hospital on June 10, 1983, after a short illness. 

Mr. Felton was born in Washington, D.C. on February 20, 1916. He was the second born son of Mr. and Mrs. Linwood W. Felton. He attended schools in Washington, D.C., and was an alumni of Howard University. Mr. Felton has resided in New York for approximately forty years. 

During Mr. Felton's early adulthood, he served as Captain in World War II in the 371st Infantry- Second Division- of the United States Armed Forces. He rose from the level of Private to be admitted to the Officers Candidate School. His brilliancy quickly advanced him to the ranks of Second Lieutenant, First Lieutenant, and then Captain. Jackie Wilson, Rock Singer; Records Included 'Teardrops' 

Jackie Wilson, a succesful rock-and-roll singer until a coma incapacitated him, died Saturday in Burlington County Memorial Hospital in Mount Holly, N.J. He was 49 years old. 

The hospital admitted Mr. Wilson on Jan. 8, and Molly Timlin, an official there, said the Wilson family asked that no information be released on the singer's illness or his death. Mr. Wilson has resided in the Medford (N.J.) Leas Retirement Community since May 1977.

April 17, 1924-July 2, 1983 

Sara Louise Slack, first woman Managing Editor of the New York Amsterdam News, died in a freak accident at her home in Stratford, Connecticut, on Saturday July 2, 1983. She was 59 years old. Attempting to separate her pet dog and a neighbor's dog, who were fighting, she slipped and fell on a sharp kitchen knife which caused her to bleed to death. The award winning journalist, who was orphaned at the age of eight, was adopted of her late aunt and uncle, Anna and Samuel Harris.
