Mistress of Ceremonies Carmen de Lavallade, born in Los Angeles, became leading dancer with Lester Horton's Dance Theater, and from her performances with this company was invited to Broadway to appear in "House of Flowers." Subsequently she was engaged by the Metropolitan Opera and was featured soloist in "Faust." For two reasons she was guest artist with the American Ballet Theater, and starred in the New York City Center's production of "Carmina Burana" and "Catulli Carmina." In Spoleto, Italy she was featured at The Festival of Two Worlds and later toured Israel with her own dance company. Under the auspices of the Sate department, Miss de Lavallade and Alvin Aile formed a company which toured he Far East. Following this she was the recipient of the Dance Magazine Award. In recent years Miss de Lavallade has increasingly combined careers in dance and theater. While a professor at Yale University, she was a leading member of the Yale Repertory Theatre Company.
