Few men have contributed more to the advancement of Black entrepreneurship in America than Earl G. Graces who is a living symbol of the gains minorities have made over the past two decades in the business community. And the success of Black Enterprise, Mrs. Graves' business-oriented magazine tailored for Black professionals and business executives, is the most visible sign of that progress.

Born at a time when to be Black and poor constituted a double jeopardy, Earl Graves parlayed his blend of intelligence and contacts from his Robert Kennedy days into one of the most successful Black-owned-and-run businesses in America. From his New York office base he heads six corporations - Earl G. Graves Ltd.; the EGG Dallas Boradcasting, Inc. which operates two radio stations in the Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas area; B.C.I. Marketing Inc. He stands as a reminder that it is possible to find within oneself a purpose for being and then relentlessly pursue that purpose.

It would be simple for Mr. Graves to relish his success and the esteem showered upon him and to forget his less fortunate brothers and sisters. That is not his way. In Black Enterprise he forcefully speaks out on the complex social, economic, and political issues that still confront minorities in the eighties and wages an ongoing battle to bring more Black entrepreneurs into the mainstream of the American economic structure.

Mr. Graves symbolizes the greatness of America and the opportunities our nation offers all its citizens. It is with considerable pride that the EDGES Group honors Earl G. Graves, Entrepreneur.
