Mr. Weissman's contributions in this area have been recognized on several occasions. In 1981 he was honored by the New York Urban League with the Frederick Douglass Award for "distinguished contributions toward the cause of equal opportunity." He was the recipient, in March 1982, of the Jackie Robinson Foundation "Robie" Award for Achievement in Industry, and in June of that year he was presented with the NAACP's Fourth Annual Corporation Recognition Award.

Mr. Weissman joined Philip Morris in 1952 as Assistant to the President and Director of Public Relations. In 1953 he was elected a Vice President, and in 1957 he was named Director, Marketing. In 1959 he was elected Executive Vice President, Marketing of Philip Morris Incorporated.

And the following year he was appointed Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive officer of Philip Morris International. He assumed his present position in 1978.

Mr. Weissman was the recipient, in February 1979, of The Citizens Committee for New York City's New Yorker for New York Award. in July 1979 he was named co-chairman of the Committee for the New York Festival, and in May 1980 he was presented with the Distinguished New Yorker Award by the City Club of New York.
