hope in the Upper Manhattan area by being actively involved in revitalization activities in Harlem in the business, housing, employment, education and community development areas. The Uptown Chamber has been promoting tourism and has had two major events that have attracted citywide acclaim. The most known in the "Harlem Week" celebration held in August, and the East Coast Holiday High School Basketball Classic held in December. This past August, New Yorkers witnessed the most successful Harlem Week ever held. Activities took place not only in Harlem but all over the City, including City Hall. NUAC is encouraged by UCC's efforts to help improve the lives and life styles of its citizens by encouraging more commerce, education and community economic development and thereby bestows the special agency award to the Uptown Chamber of Commerce. 

Consolidated Edison has been chose to received the special corporate award because it is a corporation that works to promote the economic, social and cultural well-being of the New York community. Examples of Con Edison's corporate social responsibility are seen throughout the area through its housing rehabilitation program, free ball games and heritage book covers for millions of youngsters, information flyers and participation and sponsorship of numerous community programs. The Chairman, President and Chief Executive Office, Arthur Hauspurg, serves as a director of the New York City Chamber of Commerce, the Committee for Economic Development, the Regional Plan Association and the New York City Partnership. He exemplifies the spirit of concern for the urban community that Con Edison serves and is here today as an example of their interest and concern.
