This was moderated by Ray Eiland, director, Affirmative Action Administration, Minneapolis, Minn. Panelists included: Jacqui Gates, Pepsico, Inc.; Fred Morgan, Control Data; Benjamin E. Beverly, General Motors Corp.; and Eva Scott, Girl Scouts, Inc. 

After the presentation by the panelists, the youth delegates were given an opportunity to tour the Commerce and Industry Exhibit Hall and personally meet representatives from various corporations. 

Other Convention highlights of the week for youth affairs included the appearance of several outstanding speakers. NAACP Executive Director Benjamin L. Hooks, was the guest speaker for the Wednesday Night Youth Mass Meeting. Special guests included Miss Black Oklahoma (first runner-up in the Miss Black American Pageant), Ava Gardner, brought by Mrs. Clara Luper of Oklahoma City; Lenell Geter and Mrs. Patricia Kluge, member, National Board of Directors, who donated $10,000 to the Youth & College Division. 

Special recognition functions for youth included the Roy Wilkins Scholarship Luncheon, the Youth Freedom Fund Dinner, the Youth Advisors' Luncheon and the Mr. & Miss NAACP Coronation Ball.

Later on, the presentation of the 1983-84 "Outstanding Youth Achievement Awards" was made. The individuals selected were recognized in the areas of civics, academics, athletics and religious affairs. They were: Civics--William Morton of Washington, D.C.; Academics--Belva Wilson of Lawrence, Kans.; Athletics--Reynold Miller of Clearwater, Fla.; and Religion--Ellen D. Smiley of Grambling, La. 

Oscar Robertson, former NBA player, was the guest speaker for the Roy Wilkins Scholarship Luncheon. Other guests included two Kansas City Chiefs players and Mrs. Aminda Wilkins, widow of the late Roy Wilkins. Recognition was given to the Roy Wilkins Scholarship Ad Hoc Committee -- John Tucker of the American Gas Association; Ms. Charlotte Blount of Edison Electric Institute; Ms. Diane Harvel of the American Gas Association and Frederick A. Browne of Baltimore Gas and Electric in conjunction with the following contributors: Allstate, American Brands, Inc., American Gas Association, Baltimore Gas & Electric, B-F Spirits, Ltd., Columbia Gas Distribution Companies, Eastern Airlines, Edison Electric Institute, Gannet Co., Inc., Gulf Corp., G. Heileman Brewing Co., Inc., Hewlett-Packard Company Foundation, Honeywell, Inc., International Ladies Garment Workers Union, Pepsi-Cola Co., SCM Corp., and United States Tobacco Co. With assistance of the Ad Hoc Committee members and these corporations, a total of $21,000 was raised this year for scholarship recipients in 198 and 1985. 

At the Youth Freedom Awards Dinner, the keynote speaker was Tony Brown, host of Tony Brown's Journal. During the dinner, recognition was given to outstanding youth councils and college chapters. Awardees were:

Isabel Strickland Award(Outstanding Youth Unit of the Year):

Youth Publication Award:
Youth Watch, newsletter of the Paterson, N.J., Youth Council.
 
Special Award to New Youth Council with Impressive Activities: 
Mainland, Texas, Youth Council.
