BIOGRAPHY OF DORIS H. WILSON

The first lady of Prince Hall Shrinedom for this masonic year, beginning after the Imperial Session in Detroit, Michigan, in August, 1984, will be Dt. Doris H. Bass Wilson. The wife and constant companion of Past Grand Master Carl L. Wilson, slated to be elected the Imperial Potentate of the Ancient Egyptian Arabic Order Nobles of the Mystic Shrine of North and South America and its Jurisdiction, Inc., Prince Hall Shriners.

Dt. Wilson is a member of Amer Court No. 65, past Matron of Lily of the Valley Chapter No. 55, OES, PHA, and a Loyal Lady in Miami Assembly No. 22, Order of the Golden Circle.

Born in Columbus, Ohio, the daughter of Charles Jessie Bass, Mrs. Wilson received her elementary, junior high and secondary school training in her hometown, graduating with high honors from South High School. Her college training was obtained at Ohio State University in the capital city where she majored in social administration. Since leaving OSU, she has traveled extensively throughout the world. One of her most memorable experiences while traveling abroad was a five-year tour of duty spent in the country of Ethiopia where her husband served as a resident engineer and where she performed a vareity of volunteer service work for the nationals.

When they returned stateside, Mr. and Mrs. Wilson sponsored numerous Ethiopians as students in American colleges and universities and became actively involved in volunteer work for causes to better the condition of others in the United States and overseas.

First Lady Wilson has served in various capacities over the years, performing human services to the economic disadvantaged, especially to minorities and young people.

She is presently a member of the local NAACP, Dayton Urban League, Coalition of 100 Black Women, City Wide Development Corporation, National Council of Negro Women, Democratic Voters League, Dayton Litter Control Board, Senior Citizens Registration Coordinator, Can-A-Lot Board, an agency concerned with helping feed themselves, and a member of the national 1984 Democratic Convention Rules Committee.

She has also served as a member of the Arrangements Committee of the National Democratic Committee, delegate to the State and National Democratic Conventions, county coordinator for State Representative C.J. McLin, Jr; precinct committee woman for the Fifth Ward, delegate to the Congressional Black caucus, coordinator for Voters Registration, Montgomery Country Democratic Screening Committee, and City coordinator for the Dayton Board of Education School Levy.

Mrs. Wilson's successful efforts in both civic and political affairs in evidence by the many certificates and plaques received. The most recent plaque is for Montgomery County Democrat of the Year 1984. Other awards received in recent years are plaque from the Democratic Voters League, Director's Award for outstanding service rendered to Model Cities, Ohio House of Representative Resolution, salute to Dayton Black Women, letter of appreciation Dayton Board of Education, achievement award from Edison School, and an outstanding service award as President of the Democratic Voters League.

The First Lady and the Imperial Potentate, to be, are celebrating 30 years of wedded bliss. They are parents of a son, Taddese A. Wilson, who is an electronic engineer. Doris is a member of the Mt. Olive Baptist Church.

In an exclusive interview, First Lady Wilson emphasized that one of her desires at the present time is to continue to assist her husband as he embarks on his new duties as the Imperial Potentate of Prince Hall Shrinedom. To help accomplish this task, she asks the prayers and best wishes of the more than 50,000 members of the Imperial Council/Imperial Court.
