KOOL CITY JAM

Louisville, Ky.—The 1984 KOOL CITY JAM national tour opened in Oakland at Raymond Field on June 3. The one day outdoor concert featured Broadway star, Phyllis Hyman, and the sensational jazz trio, Pieces of a Dream. Also featured were Oakland's The Together Band and The Nitelife Band. 

The performance was free and open to the public.

Oakland was the kick-off performance for the ten-city tour for the KOOL CITY JAM concert series for 1984. The KOOL CITY JAM tour debut last year and met with both audience and critical acclaim. More than 500,000 people attended the concerts last year as the tour moved from Los Angeles to Washington, D.C. and points in-between. The free afternoon concerts take on a festive flavor in each city with picnic lunches and lawn chairs creating the open air theaters for the concerts in each city.
