WIBC/CEBA AWARDS
GRANTS SCHOLARSHIPS
TO STUDENTS INTERNING
IN ADVERTISING

The World Institute of Black Communications, a non-profit organization founded by the National Black Network, has presented 3 scholarships to winners of the WIBC/AAAA Scholarship competition. The elegible [[eligible]] students were participants in the American Association of Advertising Agencies (A.A.A.A.) Minority Advertising Intern program this summer.
The scholarship awards totaling $4,500.00 were announced by Linda W. Bowie, Executive Director of the Institute at the final graduation ceremonies for the interns held at BBDO International, Inc. Earl Graves, publisher of Black Enterprise magazine and a nationally recognized authority on Black economic development, gave the keynote address.
The WIBC/AAAA Scholarship winners were Robert Williams, Syracuse University, recipient of $2,000.00, intern at McCaffrey and McCall, Inc.; Loris Crawford, a Michigan State University graduate student winner of $1,500.00, intern at BBDO International, Inc. and Grey Advertising intern Laura Wilkerson, graduate student at Cornell and winner of $1,000.00.
Now in its year, A.A.A.A.'s advertising intern program places students at ad agencies in positions involving account management, creative, media, or research, where they have an opportunity to assist on assignments for clients of the host agencies. The student may also have an opportunity to attend meetings with the agency's clients.
In 1982, The World Institute granted $5,000.00 to the A.A.A.A. for further development and promotion of the internship program. Participation in the 10-week program is highly competitive. To qualify, students must be at least juniors in college or graduate students and seriously interested in pursuing a career in advertising. Students receive a stipend for their work and assistance for housing and transportation. The interns are expected to complete advertising projects which make them eligible for the WIBC Scholarship monies.
The winners of this years [[year's]] scholarships will be honored on stage at the 1094 CEBA Awards Dinner, on October 25, 1984, at the New York Hilton Hotel. CEBA (Communications Excellence to Black Audiences Awards) was created by the Institute in 1978 to honor those corporations, ad agencies and individuals who have demonstrated sensitivity and expertise in addressing the needs and concerns of Black American consumers in advertising, sales promotion, programming and marketing.
The theme of this years [[year's]] CEBA Awards is "The Black Athlete". [[."]] Some of the special guests will include Phyllis Hyman, Geoffrey Holder and "Bubba" Smith. CEBA Awards Co-Chairman, President and CEO of Leo Burnett Co., Inc. Chicago.
