CHUMS, INC. 24th annual conclave

Mrs. Ponjola Brown Priest was elected national president of Chums Inc. during the 24th annual conclave in Teaneck, N.J. recently. 

She succeeds Mrs. Ulabelle Jackson of Cleveland, Ohio. Mrs. Bernice McDaniels of Baltimore was elected national corresponding secretary. Other national officers elected were Mrs. Lucille Gayle, vice president - Washington, D.C.; Mrs. Ann Bush, recording secretary - Washington, D.C.; Mrs. Gertrude Harvey, treasurer - Atlanta, Ga.; Miss Allison Jordan, financial secretary - Hampton, Va.; Mrs. Ruby Sapp, public relations - New York, N.Y.; members at large - Ms. Hazel Williams - Northern, N.J.; Mrs. Emily W Co. Ct.; Mrs. Gwendolyn Taylor - Jackson, Miss., and Mrs. Shirley Brown - Norfolk, Va. as registered agent. 

The new president, Mrs. Priest, is a charter member of the Baltimore, Md. chapter which was founded by Mrs. McDaniels in 1971. Both ladies have serves as president of the Baltimore chapter, are members of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Chi Delta Mu Auxiliary, Que-Ettes and many other civic and social groups. 

Mrs. Priest is the wife of Dr. James A. Priest, physician; Mrs. McDaniels is the wife of Dr. Edward McDaniels, dentist. 

Chums is devoted to the betterment of social, civic and cultural relationships. It was founded in Norfolk, Va. in 1946 by Mrs. Mary Ward Barnes, Mrs. Joyce Tate Brown and Mrs. Theodore Jackson Cora. Both Mrs. Barnes and Mrs. Cora were in attendance at the national conclave. 

During the conclave $5,000 was presented to the United Negro College Fund and the NAACP received $2,500. In addition a $1,000 scholarship was presented in the name of Kevin Davenport, the late son of Chum Doris and Hum Aaron Davenport who are members of the N.J. Hostess Chapter.
