a revolution that hasn't stopped yet.

The year was 1876 and a new invention called the telephone was about to start a world-wide revolution in communications. One of the architects of that revolution was a young black engineer, draftsman and inventor, Lewis H. Latimer. It was Latimer who did the original drawings for the telephone and helped prepare the applications for the telephone patents of Alexander Graham Bell.

But Bell and Latimer did more than start a revolution. They started a tradition that has lived on at AT&T for 108 years. It is a tradition of innovation and discovery that has brought the world the transistor, the solar cell, the laser, sound motion pictures, high fidelity recording, and much more. It is the same tradition that has continued to bring our customers quality products and service over our long, proud history. Today, the new AT&T keeps that tradition alive by finding better ways to serve you, better ways to help you communicate. The revolution continues as we reach out in new directions.
