Co-Chairpersons

[image 1]: KENNETH B. CLARK

Kenneth B. Clark is a Panamanian American who is one of the nation's most noted educators and social psychologists and present of the firm Clark, Phipps, Clark & Harris, Inc. It provides professional consultation on personnel concerns, particularly those dealing with human and race relations and affirmative action, to private corporations and government agencies. The company has serviced several foundations and educational institutions as well.

Of the many contributions Clark has made in education and civil rights, perhaps the most significant was his research on the psychological damage that racial segregation causes in children. His studies were instrumental in the 1954 Supreme Court decision outlawing separate but equal schools in America.

He is also noted for his work with Harlem Youth Opportunities Unlimited and for co-founding the Northside Center for Child Development.

The author of may books and articles, Clark received his Ph.D. in social psychology from Columbia University and is a Distinguished Professor of Psychology Emeritus of the City College of the City University of New York.

Clark serves on several corporate boards and is a member of the Board of Regents of the State of New York and of the board of trustees of the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars.

[image 2]: JOSEPHINE PREMICE
Josephine Premice is an internationally known dancer, singer and actress who has delighted audiences with her show-stopping performances here in the United States and throughout the world.

Although she began her career as a dancer, she recognized early on that versatility was key to the entertainment world and began learning everything that she could about the industry.

As a singer, she began her nightclub career in the cabaret and jazz clubs in New York City, including the famous Village Vanguard and the Blue Angel.

Well acquainted with the stage, Premice's Broadway shows have included "Jamaica" with Lena Horne, "Bubbling Brown Sugar," and "A Hand is On the Gate," and evening of black poetry produced by Joseph Papp and directed by Roscoe Lee Brown. The production, which also featured Moses Gunn, Cicely Tyson, Gloria Foster and James Earl Jones is one in which she was especially proud to participate. She has been nominated twice for the Tony Award.

Premice has also performed in the "Shakespeare in the Park" series in New York's Central Park.

However, in spite of a very full career, Premice has always found time to pass on her wealth of experience and knowledge to others, such as her work with the Dance Theater of Harlem and the Alvin Ailey Dance Company. She has also been involved in numerous charitable causes.

[image 3]: MOLLIE MOON, PRESIDENT, NATIONAL URBAN LEAGUE GUILD

Each year it is my privilege and that of the members of the National Urban League Guild to welcome our partons and guests to the Beaux Arts Ball. This year, we salute "Panama: Crossroads of the World," a tribute to the improved relations between this Central American nation and the United States.

The loyalty and support of our hundreds of friends of all races and faiths, in presenting the ball, is so vitally important. It enables the Guild to continue its assistance to its parent body, the National Urban League, in its mission of securing equal opportunity for blacks and other minorities in every sector of American society.

We also want to thank the many companies and labor unions who affirm their support of the Urban League's goals through their advertisements in this journal. We extend our thanks also the members of the news media who generously publicize this important event.
