A SPECIAL INVITATION
11th National Conference On Blacks in Higher Education
LEVERAGING

Dear Friend:

April 10-13, 1986, the National Association for Equal Opportunity in Higher Education (NAFEO) will conven its Eleventh National Conference on Blacks in Higher Education at the Washington Hilton Hotel, Washington, DC. You are cordially invited to participate in this Conference which continues as the single most important national forum in America for the discussion of issues affecting Blacks in Higher Education.

The 1986 Conference theme is "Leveraging." Our national audience consists of some 2,000 leaders and decision-makers including eighty (80) institutions from all of the states and abroad, as well as 100 of the 300 Black college alumni chosen (from among the one-million graduates of Black colleges) to receive NAFEO's Distinguished Alumni Citation. We shall examine the concept of utilizing minimal resources to achieve maximum results that lead to successful and/or increased means of attaining improved access for Blacks into and successful exit from higher education.

An impressive program is being coordinated with early confirmations from distinguished speakers such as Secretary of Education, William Bennett; NEA President, Mary Hatwood Futrell; Ernest Boyer, President, Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Learning; James Comer, Professor and Dean of Psychiatry, Yale Medical School; William Labov, Linguist, University of Pennsylvania; Arthur Teele, President, National Business League; and the Mayor of Birmingham, Alabama, Richard Arrington. The Sessions, Panels, Celebrity Series, Exhibits, Leadership Awards Banquet and other activities mesh to become this national forum aimed at enhancing Black higher education--NAFEO'S NATIONAL CONFERENCE ON BLACKS IN HIGHER EDUCATION.

The preliminary registration fees and conference information are contained herein. We invite you, urge you and welcome you to become an active support of Black higher education. Our diverse conference agenda allows involvement by seasoned education experts as well as those interested in learning more.

On behalf of the Presidents/Chancellors of 116 historically and predominantly Black colleges/universities (NAFEO's active members), we hope you will join us in April and help to strengthen Black higher education.

Cordially,
Samuel L. Myers
President
