Each year it is my privilege, and that of the members of the National Urban League Guild, to welcome our patrons and guests to the Beaux Arts Ball. This year, we give a very special salute to "The Black Family: Strengthening Today for Tomorrow," to acknowledge the very important role the family has played in the survival and progress of the black community.
The loyalty and support of our hundreds of friends of all races and faiths, in presenting the ball, is so vitally important. It enables the Guild to continue its assistance to its parent body, the National Urban League, in its mission of securing equal opportunity for blacks and other minorities in every sector of American society.
We also want to thank the many companies and labor unions who affirm their support of the Urban League's goals through their advertisements in this journal. We extend our thanks also to the members of the news media who generously publicize this most important event.
