THE LEGACY BEGINS

May 17, 1985. A milestone in American history, medical history, black history. On this day, 20 men and women fulfilled their lifelong dreams and became physicians. Even more important, the dream of a healthier, more hopeful future for the medically underserved populations of rural and inner city America became more of a reality. On May 17, 1985, the Morehouse School of Medicine, the first predominantly black medical institution founded in this century, graduated its first class.
