A communication forwarded on the 26th inst shows the difficulties arising in preparing Gov buildings for Hospitals purposes — We are now at work on the buildings that were selected by Col T. B Hood - Surgeon U. S. Vols.

The schools still continue to prosper finely. The teachers are interested in their work. The pupils are progressing as rapidly, as could be expected.

No. Monthly Reports have yet been received from the Sub Com at Macon Miss.

In many sections of this District Magistrates are approving Contracts made between Planters and Freedmen. Many of the latter are now gathering their families together and making arrangements for homes this coming year. In many instances I have learned of parties refusing to give certain members of the family up - with the expectation of urging or forcing the Parents to remain and Labor for them next season.

Transcription Notes:
changed "Mifs" to "Miss" (Mississippi); style of handwriting makes double, lowercase "s" look similar to "fs" "inst" = "of the current month"
