Head Quarters 14" Ohio Battery
Columbus. Miss. July 21st 1865.

Colonel.
I have the honor to inform you that I have been relieved as Pro. Mar. Freedmen for this Post. You will doubtless receive the order relieving me and appointing my successor, Mr E. P. Bennett, from Col. Johnson.

I would suggest (if it should meet with your approval) that he be appointed as soon as possible - so that he may continue to hold this Office after he is mustered out. His time expires about the 20" of next month. He is a man of good, sound judgement - excellent business qualities and a good penman. Capable in every respect to fulfil the duties of that Office.

I am Colonel
Very Respectfully
