The within named Violet Whiteside complainant appears to us to have an [[underlined]] almost [[/underlined]] ungovernable temper and to be habitualy insolent and not very industrious

The statement of Thomas Whitesides as made through his friend a Mr [[Thorn?]] is corroberation in may respects but claims that she first curses him and then commenced the beating by throwing a board at him In our opinion both parties are to blame and ought to be punished

Mr Thorn said he was willing to have the matter tried before a justice of the Peace and that he knew what public sentiment was in his neighborhood in regard to such cases and in our opinion the justice in that place would not give the Freedman justice [[judging?]] how this and a few other cases which have come under our notice from that County
