Post of Okolona Dec 5" 1865

Personally appeared before me WF. Du Bois' 1st Lieut and Sub Com Freedmens Bureau. Violet Whiteside a Freedwoman of the county of Itawamba State of Mississippi and made oath to the Following statement, viz:

My name is Violet Whiteside. I formerly belonged to Thomas Whiteside of the County and State aforesaid. After the surrender I made a written contract with said Whiteside of the county and State aforesaid to work for him until the first of January 1866. for (1/10) one tenth of the crop. On or about the 25th of November 1865 [[strikethrough]] said [[/strikethrough]] The said Whiteside called up all the Laborers to divide [[strikethrough]] the [[/strikethrough]] their [[??]] one tenth between the Laborers, He (Whiteside) asked me if I had any share in the corn that was in the Gin House (meaning the corn that was to be divided amongst all the Laborers.) I told him I did not know, [[underlined]] but I [[/underlined]] had helped work it and gather it (the corn) He (Whiteside) said that He did not think I had as good a right as the rest of them. He then went up to the House and came out in a few minutes and went to the shop and got a peice of Basket and shaped it like a Cradle Finger about three feet long and 3/4 of an inch thick tapering to a point. While he was doing this I went and got my horse and was going to ploughing. He saw me going and stopped me [[strikethrough]] going and stopped [[/strikethrough]] saying I want to have a settlement with ^[[you]] this morning
