A Freedwoman reported to me on the 14th that her husband had deserted her, leaving her with four (4) little children to care for, and, that no one would care for herself and children giving her board for herself and children for [[her?]] work. The next morning she gave birth to another child and now the whole of them are without any support. From these facts we have deemed it proper to make a requisition for Rations to supply such case and accordingly, send a Return asking for 1000 rations for your approval.

Have forwarded to you, for approval, a requisition for a horse and equipment, for which I have daily use, and can not properly discharg my duties without the same.
