Office Sub Com Freedmans Bureau Post of Okolona Miss Dec 9th 1865 E Bamberger Lieut & A. A. [[strikethrough]] A. [[/strikethrough]] Gen Freedmans Bureau Jackson Miss Sir I have the honor to report to you the following for the week ending Dec 9th 1865 Dec 5" 1865 forwarded to your Office sworn Statements of Mary Ann Smith, Violet Whiteside,Harriet Kilgore and Dennis Ivy Freedmen, as having received ill treatment from white Citizens of this vicinity. Our investigations thus far show no signs of an insurrection. On the Contrary, there is an increasing eagerness on the part of the Freedmen to seek employment. Our Office is constantly thronged by them asking advise and counsel as to the amount and kind of pay they ought to get and many other questions which show that they are thinking earnestly on this subject and acting also. I see little indisposition on the part of the Freedmen to work. There are some lazy ones of course.
