Lt. S. D. Barnes
A. A. A. Gen.

Sir
I am very much in need of men that I can rely on, men who I know, [[strikethrough]] to send [[/strikethrough]] to send on business among planters and others at a distance. I want men who I know will carry out my orders firmly and to the letter yet do it in a way the least offensive or irritating. The Co. stationed here are all Germans and not of the better class. Some of them may be very good men if I knew which to select. I cant depend on their Capt. to select them for me. If you would send me Corp. Martin Stark and Private Joseph E. Weed of my Co ("B" 33" Ills) I would be obliged

Very Respectfully
