Friday, Jan. 4, 1918

Went skating in the morning on a little pond Skating poor but all enjoyed it to the limit. 

Went to town ie. Mt Sterling in P.M. as yesterday P.M. Ralph did not enjoy visiting but came along.  Met 2nd Lieut Turner Besse's brother-in-law.  Expecting to return to camp any time  Enjoying very pleasant and delicate meals.

Saturday, Jan. 5, 1918

Home again from Hersman after pleasant visit.

Feel that I know Besse much better as on one occassion she opened her heart to be about herself. 

Telegram from Hicks. "Leave cancelled - Return at once" 

All is gloom in the home.  Mother tearful but brave.  Brothers stand around and speak in subdued voices.

Telephone Roy and arrange to have teeth finished in morning. Plan to leave from Keokuh on 1:15 C.B.& Q. for St. Louis.
